REVIEW: Ghost Trick (iOS)

The highly praised DS title comes to the iOS market, but does it deliver the same inventive gameplay and unique charm as its first iteration? Using my powers of deduction I will have to go with a strong yes!

As with any detective mystery game, I can't give too much away about the plot itself, but it is a well written story that captivates throughout. Capcom as usual, introduces a plethora of brightly clad and interesting characters that you will grow to love.

You play as the the detective Sissel who awakens at the game's first frame just to find that he has just been killed. Despite his lack of a body, Sissel can possess different objects in the world to help change the game's outcome. He can also inhabit the bodies of the recently deceased in order to relive the last four minutes of their life. During this flashback, Sissel is able to affect the objects in the world in order to help the victim avoid their demise. In this way he helps various living characters while exploring the mystery of his death.

I never played the original on the DS, but it seems like it was a great idea to bring this to the iOS market. The majority of the gameplay deals with touching the screen and the mechanics and sensitivity of the game work perfectly. If it is lacking in any way compared to the DS version I am not able to see where! Capcom... keep titles like this coming!

Graphics
The artwork is colorful and pleasant to look at while the animation is some of the best that I have seen on a handheld. Playing it I was reminded a little of when I first saw and played Flashback on the SNES.

Sound
The sounds and music will remain with you long after you finish the game.

Overall
The first 2 chapters of the game are free in the iOS market, but you can purchase Sissel's entire story for $9.99. Although this is a high price compared to most games there, you will be hard pressed to find another game with so much value in it. Think of it as a great game that once sold for $30 on the DS which has been improved and now costs only a third as much.

Fans of games such as those in the Phoenix Wright or Professor Layton series will not be disappointed with this title. Try the first 2 chapters for absolutely free and chances are you will be hooked on it!
